Americans have so far put up with inequality because they felt they could change their status. They did not mind others being rich, as long as they had a path to move up as well. The American Dream is all about social mobility in a sense - the idea that anyone can make it.

Change means movement. Movement means friction. Only in the frictionless vacuum of a nonexistent abstract world can movement or change occur without that abrasive friction of conflict.

It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory.

The most useless are those who never change through the years.

Teachers can change lives with just the right mix of chalk and challenges.
